MONKEY BIRD
Founded in 2012, the Monkey Bird Crew (MBC) is a collective composed of two young artists from Bordeaux : Temor and Blow the Bird (also known as The Blow). Louis and Edouard, two friends and collaborative street artists, speak with a unified artistic voice. Monkeys, birds, landscapes, citadels, and symbolic motifs are elevated through the use of intricate black, white, and gold lines traced by the duo. Their work forms a poetic and philosophical fable, delicately reflecting on humanity and the world around us.
Renowned for their mastery of stencil work, Monkey Bird Crew is particularly celebrated for the precision of their linework and the finesse of their hand-cut stencils. Their art is centered around metaphysical architectural compositions where the Bird ("Blow") and the Monkey ("Temor") coexist.
Drawing inspiration from treatises on geometry, mechanics, cosmology, and astronomy, they explore a vast range of media and surfaces. Their techniques include illumination and calligraphy, bringing a refined touch to each creation. A recurring theme in their practice is the reintroduction of animal presence within urban environments. These creatures, reminiscent of the ones found in La Fontaine’s classic fables, act as subtle allegories of the human condition. The Bird symbolizes a yearning for freedom and spiritual elevation, while the Monkey embodies humanity’s material and physical obsessions.
Though they adorn the walls of various cities, Paris, where they reside, as well as Lille, Bordeaux, Amsterdam, New Delhi, and multiple locations in Mexico, they also create artworks on salvaged materials such as wood, metal, and glass, as well as on paper.
