Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine, born in 1978, is a writer, singer and painter, and an alumnus of Radio France, Sciences Po Paris and HEC.
As a singer, Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine has worked with the likes of Michel Fugain, Elie Chouraqui, Roger Louret and Jean-Claude Camus, and has performed at the Folies Bergère, the Zenith, for M6, France Télévisions and in various musicals in Paris. As a painter, Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine creates music set to paper, influenced by her stage experience, Cubism, Surrealism and African Art. Her works are imbued with the aesthetics of the 1920s, and include Chinese ink totems and dancing carafes. Her Japanese creations recall artists such as Man Ray and Akinori Haga, illustrating her taste for the fusion of East and West. Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine uses a detailed ink-pen technique she calls "encre caviar", combining small springs, circles and a mineral and organic universe.
Her artistic work has been noticed and selected for several prestigious events, including the 12th Venice International Fair at the Room Contemporary Art Space gallery (San Marco Piazza) and the Palazzo Ca' Zanardi in 2020. Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine also took part in the Salon d'Automne de la Société des Beaux-Arts de Boulogne-Billancourt (Espace Landowski) in the same year. In February 2021, Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine was selected to represent France at the Panama Art Biennial (Universidad de Panama). In 2021, Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine was chosen to paint vat no. 8 of the Les Carmes Haut-Brion winery in Bordeaux, designed by Philippe Starck and Luc Arsène-Henry, paying tribute to the god Bacchus with the work entitled “Équilibre divin”.
